Awkwafina

American actor and musician Awkwafina debuted with sly hip-hop tracks that addressed racial identity and sexuality with boldly comedic perspective before expanding her reach into Hollywood. Born Nora Lum to Chinese and Korean immigrants in Forest Hills Queens her first encounter with the world of music was via the trumpet. She also received the classical and jazz education later delving into hip-hop as a teenager. At college, she was studying writing and women's studies. In addition, she spent one semester studying Mandarin at the University of Beijing. Following graduation, she decided to pursue music as her main focus. After gaining viral fame via the Internet and her own My Vag song My Vag was a reaction to Mickey Avalon's My Dick. It eventually was included on her debut album Yellow Ranger. It also included other viral hits like the body-positive Queef and winking hometown tour NYC Bitche$1. The latter track was linked to another project, Awkwafina's NYC Travel Guide, which was published in 2015. With musician and author as her credentials, she set her sights on a third endeavor actor. In addition to early shows like Girl Code, Tawk and Bad Rap she also appeared in film projects like Neighbors and Storks. The actress made headlines in the year 2018 when she appeared in a number of high profile films, including Dude Ocean's Eight and Crazy Rich Asians. The EP premiered in June.
